Major Conveyance System Odor Events
An odor event occurs when odors released from the sewer pipes and pump stations owned by SRCSD are easily recognized by the average person.
Target
A numeric target has not been set at this time. SRCSD will continue to collect data during the coming years and will establish a target in the future.
Purpose
This Service Level reflects the effectiveness of odor control equipment and practices in the major conveyance system.
Critical Activities
Odor events can be caused by the failure of odor control equipment, failure to provide adequate odor control chemicals and failure to keep facilities clean or covered for prolonged periods. The potential for odor events is increased when flow in the pipelines is low and temperatures are high.
2009 Performance
Three odor events occurred in the conveyance system. None were repetitive or prolonged.
Assessment
SRCSD continues to do a good job of controlling odors in the conveyance system. In 2008 odor complaints were received for different sources. Complaints were mitigated by sealing manholes, adjusting/repairing odor control systems, and applied best management practices.
