Mather Interceptor Project
Update
The draft environmental impact report (DEIR) for the Mather Interceptor Project was released July 31, 2007. The DEIR can be accessed via the Sacramento County Department of Environmental Review and Assessment (DERA) web site.
DERA will be accepting public comments on the Mather Interceptor DEIR until September 17, 2007. After the public comment period ends, DERA will evaluate the comments to determine if additional studies need to be completed. Comments will be addressed as part of this evaluation and will be included in the final EIR. The SRCSD Board of Directors is responsible for approving the EIR as a final document.
The Mather Interceptor Project is a regional sewer conveyance pipeline being designed by the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD). Interceptors are large pipes-up to 12 feet in diameter-that carry sewage from areas throughout the Sacramento. The Mather Interceptor project will increase sewage conveyance capacity to accommodate existing communities and planned growth in the developing areas of the city of Rancho Cordova along the east side of Mather Field, as well as a portion of the Sunrise-Douglas development area. The Mather Interceptor, which varies in size from 54 to 72 inches in diameter, will transport wastewater flows from these service areas to the Bradshaw Interceptor, located along North Mather Boulevard.
The Mather Interceptor Project has recently completed the preliminary design phase. The selected alignment begins at the intersection of North Mather Boulevard and Zinfandel Drive and continues along the future extension of Zinfandel Drive south to Douglas Road. The interceptor must then make its way south along Sunrise Boulevard to Chrysanthy Boulevard. The existing pump station, located on Chrysanthy Boulevard, will be taken off-line and abandoned at the completion of the Mather Interceptor Project.
SRCSD is continuing to evaluate whether to extend the interceptor south to Jackson Highway to serve development in the southern portion of the Sunrise/Douglas area.
CDM has been selected to provide final design engineering services for the Mather Interceptor, and began their work in April of 2007.
