Businesses that meet any of the following criteria must obtain a wastewater discharge permit:

• Discharges process wastewater exceeding 25,000 gallons/day (excluding domestic wastewater)
• Discharges process wastewater exceeding 38 lbs./day of solids (TSS) or wastewater strength as measured by BOD (excluding domestic wastewater)
• Classified as a "category user" in accordance with the listing established by the EPA(40 CFR Chapter 1, Subchapter N, Parts 405-471)
• Performs solvent dry cleaning, mobile pressure washing, or liquid waste hauling
• Discharges wastewater resulting from groundwater remediation projects
  

In addition, a wastewater discharge permit from the WSCS may be required for non-domestic discharges of a special nature as determined by the WSCS. All questions regarding the need for a permit should be directed to the WSCS at (916) 875-6470.
